Wave Beats Blast, 10-6; Completes Four-Game Sweep

01/30/2010 9:41 PM - The Milwaukee Wave defeated the Baltimore Blast, 10-6, Saturday night at 1st Mariner Arena.  The Blast fell into fourth place in the MISL with a 5-6 record on the season while the Wave improved to 7-6 and move into a tie for second place.   Lucio Gonzaga, Machel Millwood and Giuliano Celenza scored for the Blast while Giuliano Oliviero led the Wave with two goals and an assist.

Oliviero gave the Wave a 2-0 lead late in the first quarter with a penalty kick past Blast goalkeeper Dave Kern.  The penalty kick was a result of a two-minute holding penalty on Kern.
 
Gonzaga, Baltimore's leading scorer, tied the game at 2-2 early in the second quarter but the Wave jumped out to a 4-2 then 6-2 lead as the quarter progressed.  Kyt Selaidopoulos scored at 9:20 and Travis Mackenzie extended the Wave lead to 6-2 at the 10:00 mark.
 
Oliviero scored his second goal of the game, early in the second half, to make it 8-2 but the Blast battled back, cutting the lead to 8-4 on a Millwood goal at 4:05. 
 
The Blast continued to fight back early in the fourth quarter, cutting the Wave lead to 8-6 with a power-play goal from Giuliano Celenza but Baltimore's rally came to an end with less than six minutes remaining in the match when J.P. Rodrigues scored to seal the 10-6 Wave victory.

The Blast vs. Wave Rivalry:
The Blast is 24-42 all time against the Wave in the regular season and 18-16 against the Wave in games played in Baltimore.  The Blast and Wave have combined to win nine of the last 12 league championships and the teams have met five times in the postseason since 2002 with the Blast winning five of those postseason series; Baltimore is 9-3 against Milwaukee in the playoffs.
