California Cougars

A Rookie of the Year in the first season, and the injury report that followed.
MISL.net / Clubs / California Cougars

The California Cougars enter the archive already winning. The club began play in 2005-06 as a Stockton-based expansion side, and at the end of that first season Vicente Figueroa was named Rookie of the Year — the only one of the fourteen honours in this archive to go to California, and one earned in the club's opening campaign.
Eleven reports name the Cougars, running from 19 May 2006 to 2 October 2007, with 60 mentions across the corpus. Like Detroit, the coverage sits entirely inside a short window of the revival era, and like Detroit most of it is league-wide: All-MISL team selections and award announcements that name several clubs at once.
The last of the eleven is the hardest to read. Dated 2 October 2007, it places Figueroa on the Inactive-Injured Reserve list for the 2007-08 season after a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn lateral meniscus in the right knee. Eighteen months separate the Rookie of the Year report from that one, and the archive holds both.
The Cougars took no players in the 2005 dispersal draft, for the same reason Detroit did not: the club had not yet started. They appear instead on the other side of the trade ledger, sending the second overall pick of the 2007 expansion draft to Detroit in exchange for Sanaldo.

The archive index lists all 50 recovered reports by year. The records page holds every league honour and the complete 2005 dispersal draft; the players record sets the draft out club by club. The fixture list preserves the 2010-11 season, and the three eras explains how one league name covered three separate competitions between 1978 and 2014.
